Fernando Jorge Mota is a software developer, 30 years old, has a degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He was born and currently resides in São José, Santa Catarina.
At the age of 13, he started studying programming on his own, beginning with Python and then exploring other languages.
In 2009, he created a blog called “Blogueiros na Web,” focused on providing tips and tutorials for bloggers using scripts related to Blogger and WordPress. The blog reached 3000 visits per month.
In 2010, he launched a URL shortener called “Bitw.in” as his first personal project. The service was highly successful, accumulating over 21 million visits in just over 2 years.
Also, in 2010, he began an Industrial Learning course in Informatics at SENAI, where he formally learned object-oriented programming and the basics of Java. He completed the course in the same year.
In 2011, he started a technical course in informatics at SENAI/SC. He also joined the team of authors at “Ferramentas Blog,” migrating all the content from “Blogueiros na Web” to that platform.
In 2012, he completed the technical course and, simultaneously, finished high school and was accepted into the Computer Science program at UFSC.
In 2013, he began working as a full-stack software developer at Meritt – Educacional Information, on the project “QEdu – Use dados, Transforme a Educação,” a portal focused on presenting public education data in Brazil, such as IDEB, Prova Brasil, Censo Escolar, and more. He worked on platform resources and data import and processing.
In the second half of 2013, he started the Computer Science bachelor degree at the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
Also in 2013, he wrote guest posts for “Guia do PC,” mainly providing tips for Linux users.
In 2014, he co-created a circuit simulator with a group at the university, aiming to facilitate the understanding of electronic circuits. The simulator, developed in Java, was later released as open-source on Github.
In the same year, he created a course registration simulator called “MatrUFSC2,” making it easier for UFSC students to choose their subjects for the upcoming semester through automated combinations of what they could or could not take. This simulator, available on Github, utilized an automated crawler to gather information from the UFSC website. It was his first project using Google App Engine, making it fully distributed in the cloud. The simulator was launched by the end of the 2014-2 semester, and already containing information for the 2015-1 semester.
Still, in 2014, he started the “Blog do Fernando Jorge Mota,” a blog focusing on programming news and tools, especially for web development.
In 2015, he created a blog and a help session to assist UFSC students with registration-related questions. Additionally, he developed “Jimple,” a dependency injection container written in ES6 and strongly inspired by Pimple. In December 2015, he left Meritt to work solely on personal projects while continuing his studies in Computer Science at UFSC.
At the end of 2019, he completed his Computer Science bachelor’s degree at the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
Starting from early 2020, he worked as a full-stack developer for Datapedia, developing a platform for visualizing public data, which extended beyond education-related data, until the end of 2021.
Since January 2022, he has been working at Automattic as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to products such as Sensei, Sensei Pro, and WP Job Manager.
Since he began programming at 13, Fernando has worked with projects in various programming languages. Today, he is proficient in the following languages:
- PHP
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Golang
- C / C++
